Pune District Education Association, Pune, the parent body of our Institutewas established by the great social reformer Hon. Baburaoji Gholap in 1941. Thegreatest achievement of the Association is that it was awarded "The Best Educational Institution Award" by the Government of Maharashtra in 2000.
P.D.E.A's Baburaoji Gholap College, Sangvi, Pune-27 was established in June 1989 with the motivation of Late Prof. Ramakrishna More, President of PuneDistrict Education Association. The College was established, keeping in view the factthat there was no college of higher education within the fast developing area ofSangvi, Aundh, Baner, Wakad, Kalewadi, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Thergaon,etc. The major population in this area comes from middle class and is economicallyweak.
There are four higher secondary school in this area. Access to higher education was a problem for these students especially for girls since other senior colleges weremore than 10 Kms. away from Sangvi. Our institute has been imparting education tothe rural, semi-urban and urban masses. The college began its functioning with a fewstudents. Today we have adequate number of classrooms, laboratories, computercentre with ample number of computers. We have competent and well qualifiedfaculty and efficient administration tradition.
Our Institute is multi-faculty college which offers Degree courses in Arts,Science and Commerce as well as Post Graduate Degree courses in Arts, Commerce,Science and Computer Science to the students coming from the semiurban and ruralareas of Maval, Mulshi and Haveli Tahsil. We have specializations at undergraduatelevel in Marathi, English, Economics, History, Politics, Commerce, Physics,Chemistry, Botany, Computer Science and Computer Application. At the post-graduation level we have specialization in English, Economics, History, Commerce,Organic Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Computer Application. Apartfrom this we also have N.S.S., Sports, Cultural and Literacy Association. UnderGraduate Courses in Science and Commerce were started in the Year 1989, Arts in1993, Computer Science in 1994 and Computer Application in 2006. Post Graduatecourses like M.C.S. was started in 2000, M.A., and M.Com. in 2002 , M.C.A. in2003 , M.Sc. Physics in 2006 and M.Sc. Chemistry in 2008.
All the programme offered by college are well woven with the aims andobjectives of the institution. A ten days Soft Skills Development Programme wassuccessfully run with an over whelming response since 2008-09. The Institute alsocaters to the needs of the girls from this area, which is quiet obvious from the fact thatthe number of girl students in the college on the rise. The programmes offered by thecollege are also compatible to the local needs and the challenges that they have toface in the future. Special Programmes, Workshops and Skill oriented courses arearranged for girls through Vidyarthini Manch (Forum for Girl students).
Prin. Dr. M. G. Chaskar has been instrumental in accelerating further growth ofthe college. His motivation has resulted in a significant increase in the number of staffmembers going in for advanced research. His leadership expertise is wellimplemented in the leadership role as the head of the institution. This has culminatedin the Institute achieving many awards like
The status gained by our college today is all because of proper guidance andinspiration of Hon. Ajitdada Pawar, President of P.D.E.A. He has broadened thevision of every teacher and employee of the institution. The efforts of the entirecollege staff are focused on the academic as well as overall development of thecollege and the students.
